Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials seize gold biscuits worth 1.82 crore

Nellore: The officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 58 gold biscuits weighing 5,700.04 grams from three persons at Venkatachalam Toll Plaza on Friday, who were travelling from Chennai to Kavali.

On a tip off, the DRI officials intercepted a Toyota Etios Car at Venkatachalam Toll Plaza and seized the material. Three people were travelling by a car and officials found 25 pieces of pure smuggled gold weighing 2,400.07 gm concealed in a white colour pouch tied to the waist of a person and 33 pieces of gold weighing 3,299.97 was kept in an orange cloth bag hidden in the dash board of the car.

On interrogation, the accused admitted that the gold was smuggled without having any documentary proof. Total 58 gold biscuits recovered from the accused with foreign symbols are worth Rs 1.82 crore. The gold biscuits have been seized under Customs Act, 1962 and officials took three persons into custody for further investigation.
