Government General Hospital awaits land for new building

Guntur: Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur is waiting for allotment of land to construct second hospital in the city to render medical services to more patients They wrote a letter to the district administration for the allotment of land. After Amaravati became the State capital, the number of patients visiting GGH in Guntur is on the rise.

In addition to this, the government hospitals in neighbouring districts also refer the cases to the GGH as it is rendering super specialty services to the patients.

Heart transplant, kidney transplant, knee replacement surgeries and bypass surgeries are being performed at the GGH. In order to meet increasing demand, there is a need to construct another hospital. 

According to the doctors at the GGH, at present on an average every day 4,000 outpatients are visiting the hospital. In addition to this, 1423 beds are available at the hospital for inpatients. 

The hospital authorities have already sent a proposal to increase beds in the hospital to render medical services to more patients. In order to construct another hospital building, at least another 10 acres of land is required in the city.

If the suitable land is available the government will construct the second hospital. The GGH has a proposal to set up physiotherapy wing, emergency medicine and transfusion medicine etc at the second building. In order to set up additional departments and increase beds they require more buildings.  

They have a proposal to shift ophthalmology and other departments to the new hospital. Cardiology, nephrology and other important wards will continue in the existing building.

GGH Superintendent Dr D S Raju Naidu said, “We want at least 10 acres of land for the construction of the second hospital. I have already written a letter to the district administration for the allotment of land. We are waiting for allotment of land.

We have proposal to set open Emergency Medicine, Transfusion medicine, Physiotherapy wing. We have already sent proposal to the government to increase beds in the hospital also. “
