Complete 10k civil works in capital region within four months: Minister

Vijayawada: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana has directed the municipal officials of the Amaravati region to complete the 10,000 civil works in four months.

Narayana convened a meeting with the municipal commissioners, chairman, engineering officials of the municipalities and corporations of Krishna and Guntur districts at the VMC Council Hall on Saturday and discussed the progress of works.

The officials said 5,000 works already started and 5,000 works are yet to be started. The minister has enquired about the progress of ongoing works and asked the officials to start the remaining 5,000 works. He said people would suffer problems in the rainy season if the works are delayed.

Later, briefing the media, the Minister said most works were not started as tender process is yet to be completed. He said the government changed the tenders policy and eased the procedure for sanction of works related to construction of roads, side drains, streetlights and water pipelines. 

Referring to education, he said the municipal schools created a record this year by achieving outstanding results and added 303 students studied in municipal schools got 10 GPA against 49 students last year. He said 4,000 Anganwadi centres were converted to pre-schools and efforts were on to convert another 7,000 Anganwadi centres as pre-schools.

He said instructions were given to all municipalities to complete the sterilisation of stray dogs and pigs to control their birth rate. He said instructions were given to give facelift to 1,400 parks and 1,400 burial grounds in 110 municipalities of the state.
