Remove silt from Jalipudi drain to avoid inundation: CPM
Eluru: CPM leaders requested the district officials to de-silt the Jalipudi major drain to save Eluru city from inundation problem during rainy season.
The leaders headed by B Somaiah visited the Jalipudi drain flowing in the city on Sunday.
The team watched the flow of Jalipudi drain from Nukalamma Gudi, Gunbazaar, Adivarapupeta market, ESI hospital, DMHO office, Powerpet and Dayyala Tumu.
Speaking on the occasion, Somaiah said that the team had observed most of the drain was silted up. Over decades, the silt was not removed from the drain, he stated.
As the drain was silted up, it had lost its capacity to take the waters from the city and this was leading to inundation of many areas during the rainy season.
He demanded that the officials de-silt the drain immediately before the rainy season.
He said as the drain was silted up over many years, the Two-Town area was witnessing inundation problem during rainy season.
CPM leader Kandi Viswanatham said that during early 2000, the then Collector Sanjay Jaju had concentrated on the drain problems and had initiated steps to de-silt the drain.
He wanted the officials to look into the matter and immediately take steps to remove the silt in the drain.
CPM leaders P Kishore, Mavuri Srinivasa Rao, B Jagannadha Rao, V Saibaba, P Adiseshu were among the members of the team that visited the drain.
