MEPMA, NTR health varsity ink pact to treat cancer

Eluru: Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) Project Director R Ravi Kumar has said that MEPMA officials and Dr NTR Health University came entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to prevent breast cancer and other cancer ailments among women.

He addressed an awareness meeting on breast cancer and uterus cancer among the women held here on Monday.

Addressing the meeting, he said that there was a possible threat of breast cancer to one woman in every eight women. 

He said by creating awareness, cancer would be prevented. Women should maintain hygiene to prevent the uterus cancer. 

He informed that awareness programmes were taken up in eight towns in the district.

During the camps, it was identified some women were diagnosed with breast and uterus cancer. 

The affected women would be tested free of charge (mammogram and other tests) through Chief Minister’s Health Centres.

MEPMA Additional Coordinator Ch Kanaka Mahalakshmi said that the MEPMA had taken up the awareness programme with a slogan ‘Raise your voice – break the silence’ with the cooperation of NTR University of Health Sciences, the National Social Service (NSS), women medicos and health workers. 

An action plan was drafted for this, she added.
