Visakhapatnam: Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) State Secretary M Lakshmi demanded that the inquiry report on Padmasri IVC Centre be made public immediately.

There are several complaints lodged against Padmasri IVF Centre alleging that the hospital management had cheated a Dalit woman by injecting zygotes into her womb sans her consent.

With the directive of the National Commission for SC member, the district administration set up an Inquiry Committee to probe into the incident. The committee completed its probe and submitted its report to the administration. But the district administration is not disclosing the report. The report should be uploaded in the public domain immediately, Lakshmi demanded.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, Lakshmi demanded that the government revise and bring stringent surrogacy Act to save the women. The corporate hospitals have been doing business by using the innocent women in the name of surrogacy, she alleged.

Managing Director of Padmasri IVF Centre Sudha Padmasri is also working as a government doctor at King George Hospital and she should be suspended immediately. Though women organisations have been fighting for justice for the Dalit woman, police are not taking the statements from the women’s organisations in order to save the IVF Centre, she alleged.

POW district president S Venkatalakshmi, other leaders D Rohini, K Balanagamma and surrogacy victim’s husband were present and demanded immediate action against Padmasri Hospital.
