Brahmotsavam from tomorrow

Nellore: Popular Chengalamma temple located in Sullurpet is getting ready for once in 7-year Brahmotsavam from Thursday onwards. The 400-year-old temple in the district is much popular since miniatures of SHAR launching would also be presented before the Goddess for her blessings for safe trajectory.

The temple is located on the banks of River Kalangi and is convenient for devotees from Chennai, Tirupati, Nellore and other places. Devotees from all parts of the south India visit the temple and offer special prayers. There is a practice to conduct Brahmotsavam once in 7 years.

Interesting part is the temple has no doors. Anybody can come and offer prayers at the temple at any time according to their convenience. There is a story that the goddess appeared to the villagers in a dream and instructed them not to fix any doors to the temple. Since then, there have been no doors to the temple.

Chairman of the Trust Board M Venkateswarlu Reddy said that they will be conducting Brahmotsavam from Thursday that will continue till June 6. On Thursday, Baliharanam and Sudimanu Pratishta will be organised.

On June, 1 goddess will be moved on horse chariot, deity will appear in the attire of Mahishasura Mardhani for devotees on June 2, Teppotsavam on June 4, Sayanapeta on June 5 and Pushpapalli Seva on June 6 in addition to regular Sullu Grama Utsavam since beginning day. Temple management has arranged special cultural activities for attracting the devotees.
