Students throng helpline centres

Vijayawada: Hundreds of students, who applied for EAMCET-2018 counselling, visiting the helpline centres organised at SRR and CVR College and Andhra Loyola College (ALC) here on Tuesday. The counselling process for admission into engineering, agriculture and health started on May 28. Candidates, who received messages ‘Not Verified’ after paying the process fee for certificate verification, were rushing to the call centres.

Mathew Srirangam, helpline coordinator at ALC, said that 157 students visited the helpline centre on Tuesday and 170 visited on Monday. He said as per the counselling schedule, first day candidates with ranks from 1 to 40,000 will apply for certificate verification, from 40,001 to 80,000 on Tuesday and from 80,001 to last rank on Wednesday.

He said that most of the candidates came for verification of caste certificates or income certificates. He said that about 15 staff were deployed at the Helpline Centre which include computer operators, verification officers and chief verification officers, he said.

M Vijay Kumar, father of M Rohit, an engineering aspirant from Vuyyuru, expressed discomfort on the arrangements made at the helpline centre. He suggested to open more number counters for verification. He said there was no proper seating facility for the students and parents. He said that process of verification was taking a long time and they have to wait till evening, he added.

N Prasad Babu, father of an engineering aspirant, said that they cannot expect arrangements better than this for a couple of days counselling process. He said that they have to adjust and keep going.
