15-L excess white cards detected

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Food Commission Chairman JR Pushparaj said that they identified 15 lakh excess white cards in the state in a survey by SAP. Addressing the media at a review meeting on Wednesday, he said that out of 1.39 crore families in the state, they noticed that 1.44 crore white ration cards have been issued till date.

He said that 1.94 lakh new cards were proposed in the list and applications received for 12 lakh cards as split cards.  He said the Food Commission suggested to the state government to reconsider the white cards in the state. Pushparaj said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured reforms in the Civil Supplies department.

He said that they suggested to the government to bring an Act on APPDS Control Order 2018 instead of 2008 to take action on all the accused in the illegal transportation of PDS rice to bring the Food Safety department in to the limits of the Food Commission.  Commission members LB Venkat Rao, N Srinivasa Rao, N Vijayalakshmi, G Krishnamma, Dr Swarna Latha and Joint Director K Ranga Kumar were present.
