Parents, girl end lives over marriage proposal

Guntur: In a tragic incident, three members of a family hailing from Guntur committed suicide by jumping before a moving train at Madhira in Khammam district on Monday. 

Head of the family, wife and daughter took the extreme step over marriage of the girl who opposed to the bridegroom proposed by the parents. She insisted on marrying her boyfriend forcing the parents to end lives.  

According to police, the girl Krishna Veni (19) was studying fashion technology here. Her parents Dunga Venkaiah (45) and Rajani (39) tried in vain to convince her respect their choice of groom. 

Her denial of groom suggested by them and her inclination towards boyfriend hurt the sentiments of parents. They treated the daughter’s decision as a huge dent to their good family image among friends and relatives. 

They preferred death to agreeing to daughter’s choice of her life partner. As they made it clear that they would commit suicide, the girl tried to stop them, in vain. 

She also jumped before the train along with parents. Their bodies were shifted to Guntur on Tuesday.

The lone survivor of the family is the girl’s brother Sai Gopinath, studying Intermediate. He also prevented parents from going to Khammam district. 

They conceded and returned to home while boarding train. However, when he left for college, the parents changed their mind.
