Bank services paralysed

Visakhapatnam: The leaders of the bank employees and officers associations warned the Centre that they would launch indefinite hunger strike, if the government did not consider their demands. All the banks remained closed on the second on Thursday as a part of a two-day strike .

Many employees and officers for various banks staged a dharna near LIC Building demanding that the Centre resolve their long pending issues. Addressing the employees, Bank Employees Joint Action Committee Convener A Yugandhar said that if the Centre did not strive towards strengthening the banks, they would launch an indefinite strike.

Later speaking to the media, the leaders, including Yugandhar and Vasudeva Rao, A Sushma and P Mangapathi, said that in order to explain about the threat to the banks in the country to the people, they observed the two-day strike. 

It is learnt that the government warned that the two-day salaries would be cut, to explain about the facts they observed the strike. “Due to the unilateral decisions of the Centre, including demonetisation and GST, Indian economy is facing tough times. The banks have been facing troubles even to pay the salaries to the employees. 

After the demonetisation, the entire country is facing currency crisis and there is no role of the banks in the crisis. The national banks have been playing a vital role in boosting the Indian economy and helping the people in many ways”, Yugandhar and Vasudeva Rao alleged.
