22 Economic Cities to be set up soon in State

Amaravati: Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar said the State government planned 22 Economic Cities in different districts which would help speed up economic development in the State.

Speaking at a review meeting at the Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Secretary said investors were coming forward to establish industries in Economic Cities but the government would give priority to non-polluting industries.

“The government is taking steps to set up 22 Economic Cities across the State. We have to consider public opinion in giving permissions for industries in Economic Cities. Our priority is non-polluting industries,” he said.

He directed Principal Secretary to Energy, Industries and Investments  Ajay Jain to set up Andhra Pradesh Economic Cities Promotion Company Limited for setting up industries in Economic Cities. He suggested that the government would give equal priority to employment generation and public health also. “We have to take the public health into consideration when giving permissions to industries,” he said.

He also suggested that micro, small and medium industries should be given priority. “Local people will be provided employment with the MSME industries. The government is expecting that the Economic Cities will generate employment opportunities to the youth on a large scale,” he said. 

He enquired the progress of Economic City in Jakkampudi village near Vijayawada and suggested to APTIDCL vice-chairman Ramnath that the land acquisition issue relating to Jakkampudi Economic City could be discussed with Krishna Collector.
Ramnath made a power point presentation over the Economic Cities projects and explained about the proposals on industrial units in various districts.
