Case booked against Army man on rape charges

Visakhapatnam: A bizarre incident came to light here after a minor girl approached Chodavaram Police complaining against an Army man. The victim girl approached the police with the help of women organisations along with her parents on Friday.

According to sources, the accused J Jaganadham is a native of Gouravaram village of Chodavaram mandal in Visakhapatnam district and is working in Indian Army in Kolkatta. He had come to his village on leave in November 2017.

During his vacation on November 20, 2017, he came to the house of the girl in Gouravaram village, when her parents were away from hime in the mid-day. Jaganadham forcibly entered into the girl’s house and closed the mouth of the girl, and raped her by threatening her with a butter knife.

Jaganadham also threatened her that he would eliminate her family members if she discloses the incident to any person. Then, he fled away from the spot. Again, after a few days, he returned back to her and said her that he was willing to marry her and once again had sex with her forcefully. 

On May 14th 2018, the minor girl parents were shocked after the doctor at Chodavaram hospital had examined the girl and conformed that the girl was six months pregnant. The girl disclosed about the incident and about Jaganadham. 

After the news had spread in the village and on May 24th, the parents and relatives of Jaganadham had come to the victim girl’s house and gave an advice to make abortion to the girl and asked them to leave the village by offering Rs 4 lakhs as compensation instead of conducting marriage. The girl parents had approached local police and lodged a complaint on Thursday.

Chodavaram CI M Sreenivas said that the accused Jaganadham had fled away from the village. They had launched a man-hunt for the accused.   The police had registered a case under section 376,417,420, 506 ,R\\W 34 and IPC Section 6 (POCSO).
