Puttaparthi (Anantapur): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Panchayat Raj Minister Nara Lokesh have released Rs 53.47 crore for laying roads to 53 villages in Puttaparthi Assembly constituency, according to former Minister and local MLA Palle Raghunatha Reddy.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Raghunatha Reddy stated that even 68 years after the country attaining independence, villages are not well connected and do not have roads.

In tune with the dictum that roads are symbols of civilisation and development, the MLA said that he had embarked upon a programme of connecting all remote villages and mandals in his constituency and had impressed upon the Chief Minister and the Panchayat Raj Minister to sanction roads to 53 villages in his constituency.

The cabinet meeting decided to release funds for laying new roads and improving road connectivity in the pilgrim town of Puttaparthi. The roads would give a new facelift to the international tourist town, he said.

All the 53 roads to the villages would be tar roads. The MLA thanked the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh for their gesture.
