Duggirala Gopalakrishnayya remembered
Bapatla: Deputy Tahsildar Sricharan said that Duggirala Gopalakrishnayya was one of the famous leaders in the non-violent Indian Freedom Movement and attracted millions of people to the movement through his poetry and speeches.
Duggirala Gopala Krishnaiah’s 130th birth anniversary was celebrated on Saturday under the aegis of Forum for Better Bapatla.
His statue in Taluka office compound was garlanded and rich tributes were paid to the great leader.
Floral tributes were also paid to Telugu Talli statue on the occasion of fourth State formation day. Sricharan reminded that Civil Disobedience Movement in Andhra led by Duggirala Gopala Krishnaiah attracted the attention of the entire country.
It was popularly known as 'Chirala-Perala' movement and reminded that it was an unprecedented movement in the history of the country.
Forum for Better Bapatla secretary PC Saibabu reminded that Duggirala formed a volunteer group called ‘Ramadandu’, which was a well-organised, patriotic and spiritual organisation.
He studied in Bapatla Board School and worked as clerk in Bapatla.
