23-yr-old married woman commits suicide

Kurnool: A 23-years-old married woman committed suicide after consuming pesticide at her residence in Pusulur village under Nandyal taluka police station limits. The deceased was identified as M Subba Lakshmi Devi. According to police, the woman was married to one M Madhu Kumar, Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) Constable, of Bhupanapadu village in Panyam mandal, 10 months ago.

Since marriage, her husband and in-laws have been torturing her demanding  additional dowry, said the Sub Inspector, M Ramesh Babu. Two days ago, she came to her parents’ house at Pusulur village and revealed the demand of her husband and in-laws.

Even her husband Madhu Kumar also spoke to the woman over phone and demanded the dowry amount. Unable to bear the torture she thought of ending her life. She consumed pesticide and committed suicide. 

After consuming pesticides, Subba Lakshmi became unconscious and was rushed to Nandyal General Hospital on Saturday night where she died while undergoing treatment in early hours of Sunday. The parents of the deceased woman lodged a complaint. ``We have filed a case and took up investigation. The accused are yet to be arrested,’’ said the investigation officer M Ramesh Babu.
