Vijayawada: “If the environment is not taken care, the coming generations will face the consequences of it,” said Kanaka Durga Temple Trust Board chairman Yalamanchili Gouranga Babu.

He participated in the Clean and Hygiene programme organised by Andhra Pradesh National Green Corps (APNGC) at Durga Ghat to mark World Environment Day here on Tuesday. 

Speaking on the occasion, the chairman said UNO theme for the environment day 2018 was ‘beat plastic pollution’. 

He said that APNGC had taken up the cleaning of beaches and riverfronts for the last one week across the 13 districts of the state. 

He said that the youth should be educated on the ill-effects of plastic usage. He said the devotees who come for the holy dip in the Krishna River should put the plastic waste in the dustbins. 

Plastic waste was dangerous for our health and for the next generations. He said that with plastic waste, sewage system was blocked at many places creating inconvenience.

Keeping in view various problems, the government had taken up many steps to stop usage of plastic. 

The government had launched programmes for minimising the usage of plastic, he added.
