Forest clearance under process for Somasila canals
Nellore: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said they were pursuing with the Central government to get forest clearance for Somasila north and south, and Kavali canals. Once the process is completed, an additional of 27,000 acres can be brought under irrigation, he stated.
The Minister reviewed with officials on irrigation projects in the city on Tuesday and said that main aim of the TD government is improving agriculture sector in the State. He said they had focused on increasing ayacut area in the district and Nellore barrage works would be completed shortly. Sangam barrage works would also be finished within next 5-6 months, he said.
By obtaining forest clearance for Telugu Ganga project, an additional acreage of 1.1 lakh acres can be irrigated and efforts are on to provide water for at least 57,000 acres. Somasila Project Committee Chairman R Sundararami Reddy, Kandaleru Project Committee Chairman V Mastan Naidu, Joint Collector K Vetri Selvi, DRO Venkata Subbaiah, and other senior |officials were present.
