Mystery shrouds octogenarian’s death

Eluru: An octogenarian died under suspicious circumstances at Achanta Vemavaram village in Achanta mandal in West Godavari district. The incident came to light after her daughter visited the house on Monday night.

According to police, Gudala Nagaratnam (80), a widow was residing alone at Lingaraju Cheruvu area in Achanta Vemavaram village in Achanta mandal. Her husband died a decade ago and her four children got married. Her elder daughter K Bharati is living nearby house at Achanta Vemavaram village. Daily her daughter used to stay with her mother during the night and return to her house in the morning.

On Sunday night, Bharati came to her mother Nagaratnam’s house and slept there. On Monday morning, she returned to her house. As usual, her mother had to visit her house for a cup of tea in the afternoon. As she did not turn up, Bharati assumed that she might be taking rest in the house.

In the evening, she went to Nagaratnam’s house and found her dead mother dead in a chair. Later, she lodged a complaint with police. In turn, Achanta police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem to Palacole Government Hospital.
