Need for environmental protection stressed
Kurnool: District Collector S Satyanarayana gave a call to people to give priority for protection of environment. He participated in the World Environment Day celebrations at Sunaina Auditorium here on Tuesday, along with MP Butta Renuka and APPCB Zonal Chief Environmental Engineer Rajendra Reddy.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector stated it is the responsibility of all to protect the environment as it enhances good health for the human beings on the earth. He stressed on the need for educating people about the adverse effects of plastic usage. He further said that the western countries are receiving more rains due to more forest area. He advised the people to plant more number of saplings.
About 10 per cent of pollution is being produced from the plastic, Satyanarayana said, adding the plastic takes nearly 450 years to dissolve with the soil. Butta Renuka said the extensive usage of plastic would prove harmful to the living beings on the earth. Prior to the meeting, the Collector flagged off an environmental protection awareness rally at the Collectorate. The cultural programmes organised on the occasion have enthralled the viewers. Later, the officials distributed prizes to the winners.
