Student knocked down by lorry

Eluru: A Class X student died on the spot and another student sustained serious injuries when a speeding lorry hit them on Upperu Road in Kukunuru agency mandal on Tuesday.

According to police, Gouravarapu Mathayya (16) and Kottu Pulla Rao (16) of Upperu went to offer prayers at Upperu Centre and were returning to their houses when a speeding lorry coming from Kukunuru knocked down the students while trying to avoid hitting the cattle.

In this incident, Mathayya died on the spot while Kottu Pulla Rao, who was seriously injured, was shifted to Bhadrachalam Government Hospital. Kukunuru police registered a case.
