YSRCP MPs' failed to convince Sumithra Mahajan to accept thier resignations

Update: 2018-06-07 02:08 IST

The YSRCP MPs' failed to convince the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sumithra Majaha, on Wednesday too to accept their resignations forthwith. The Speaker in an unusual move asked the MPs' to 'resubmit' their resignations following their submission that they were resigning on their volition and had hence submitted the same in the Speaker's format.

However, the Speaker nudged them to resubmit the same for her satisfaction.

The MPs' reportedly handed over fresh letters in support of the previous ones to the Speaker's Office by the closing time of the office.

There was no confirmation from the Speaker at the time of filing this report of the acceptance of the same.

The Speaker is leaving Delhi for abroad on a holiday and if there is no confirmation of her acceptance later by night, the decision would be pending till her return which could be around June 18.

However, the YSRCP MPs' who spoke to the media said the Speaker had accepted their resignations and the confirmation would come by the evening. They claimed they had resigned for the sake of AP that was denied the Special Category Status (SCS) by the Centre.

They challenged the TDP too to do so if it was really fighting for the SCS.

However, TDP MP, Kesineni Nani, later lashed out at them calling their resignations a farce and drama. If the YSRCP was really interested in taking on the Centre, they would have resigned much earlier instead of waiting for an opportune time and only after the TDP launched its war against the Centre to protect AP's interests.

Nani said if Jagan Mohan Reddy was genuine in his concern he would have asked even Vijaysai Reddy to resign.

The YSRCP MPs' were not sure whether there would be any by-elections at all if their resignations were accepted. They were vague in their answers to these questions from the media and only asserted that they would contest the elections if those were held.
