Ravi Excels in Micro Carving

Vijayawada: Micro carving on a piece of chalk and pencil lead has earned 16 world records to Dr Nadipalli Ravi Kumar.

A craft teacher by profession and with artist’s family background, Ravi Kumar started miniature carving on pencil lead and chalk a few years ago.

Speaking to ‘The Hans India’, Ravi Kumar briefed his journey to succeed records in micro carving. He said initially he had failed in several attempts to create designs on both chalk and lead for weeks. 

He wasted about 100 pencils and a few chalk boxes before actually succeeded in getting the right output and shape of Lord Ganesh. He said that he used one centimetre long pencil lead and has done unbelievable carving sculptures on 4B pencil leads.

He carved on lead Ganesh, Krishna Veni Matha, Mahatma Gandhi, NT Rama Rao, Lord Krishna, Abdul Kalam, Swami Vivekananda and Mahanati Savitri. He sculptured Natya Ganapati, Godavari Matha, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and many on piece of chalk.

Ravi Kumar said that each piece took about 3 to 4 days to create. If any mistake was observed, he had to take a new one and start from the scratch, said Ravi Kumar.

He informed that he received nine world records at a time in 2016 on January 1 for the carving 31 Telugu letters with a width of 8 mm and height of 0.4 mm. 

He received another seven world records in February 2018, for making a 0.7 x0.7 miniature calendar which was almost less than thumb nail size. The mini calendar had to flip 12 pages containing dates, months and the weeks.

Now, he is trying for Guinness World Record for his calendar, he informed.

He said former Tamil Nadu Governor K Roshaiah and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appreciated him.
