Commerce, the most popular stream in Sri Venkateswara University
Tirupati: The commerce course offered by the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) and its 20 affiliated colleges is gaining popularity among the students with the availability of jobs in local industries. According to university officials, 1,921 students have applied for M Com in the Sri Venkateswara University Common Entrance Test (SVUCET)-2018 as against the 1,050 seats.
The students are showing interest to study commerce course with computers and accounts as specialisation in the last three years. The rise in popularity for commerce courses attributed to setting up of more industries in Sri City, Yerpedu, Srikalahasti, Chittoor-Bengaluru highway industrial corridor and Renigunta Electronic Cluster.
Hundreds of jobs are available for commerce students in front desk, accounts, auditing and HR departments. Speaking to The Hans India, a student Vikram Reddy, who has applied for the M Com course, said that they are more job opportunities for commerce students compared to other courses in local industries.
After competition of the course, the students of MCA and MSc have to search for jobs either in Bengaluru or Chennai, he stated. SVU Deputy Director (Admissions) Prof Deva Prasad Raju said more students keen on pursuing commerce course to get local jobs.
