MLA distributing Ramzan Tofa to Muslim Women
Eluru: MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao (Bujji) has said that about 6,000 poor Muslim families would get four varieties of essential commodities under Ramzan Tofa before the festival.
He distributed the Ramzan Tofa kits to 150 Muslim families at Kathepu Veedhi near Venkanna Cheruvu area on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA said that the government had decided to distribute the Ramzan kit to every poor family to celebrate their festival.
As part of this, the officials have identified 4,500 Muslim families who possess white ration cards in Eluru city alone. About 1,000 Muslims are in rural areas.
These families would get Rs 258 worth essential commodities consisting of wheat flour, sugar, ghee and vermicelli packets. He said soon Anna Canteens would be opened in Eluru city to give tiffins and meals at cheaper prices to the people.
Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan said that she had contributed part of her honorarium to the 4,500 poor Muslim families in the city besides the Ramzan Tofa of the government. This time also the amount was spent to the social activities, she said.
Co-option Member SMR Pedababu, corporators Chode Venkataratnam and Jijjavarapu Pratap Kumar participated. Later, the MLA and Mayor distributed the Ramzan Tofa to Muslim women.
Earlier, the MLA inaugurated the prayer hall for Muslims.
