Rare Heart Surgery Performed

Ongole: The doctors at the KIMS here performed a rare and critical heart surgery, announced the hospital management on Thursday.

According to S Narasimha Murthy, the general manager, Venkata Rajaiah, aged 58 years from Maddipadu in Prakasam district came to KIMS Ongole on April 29 with complaints of chest pain and fatigue. 

The doctors diagnosed with ECG and 2D echo and found that he was suffering from a heart related issue and informed his relatives about the need of angiogram. 

After performing angiogram, the doctors said that the main vein and an artery carrying blood to the heart were narrowed causing obstruction for the supply. 

The doctors suggested the patient to undergo bypass surgery but he refused due to fear.

S Venkateswarlu, superintendant of the hospital said that after considering other options, the cardiologists team decided to perform Left Main Bifurcation Stenting, which is said to be most complex surgery in the interventional cardiology. 

This type of surgery was not performed up to now in any hospital in Rayalaseema, Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur districts as it involves experienced and skilled medical practitioners and technical support team available at hand.

T Giri Naidu, the executive director of the hospital said that the specialists team lead by the interventional cardiologist G Obul Reddy and K Sridhar Babu and other cath lab team, performed the rare and critical surgery for the first time in the neighborhood at KIMS Ongole.
