State-level rugby tourney begins
Kurnool: President of Andhra Pradesh Rugby Association, TG Bharat said, “we will strive to develop rugby sport at all 13 districts by giving due importance to the players.” He also announced of organising national-level rugby championship tourney in Kurnool shortly.
He made these statements after participating as chief guest on the inaugural ceremony of two-day state-level rugby seniors (men and women) championship tournament organised here on Friday.
Later, addressing the gathering on the occasion, Bharat said, “Rugby is a sport played widely in European countries. Though the sport belongs to European countries, it gained popularity in AP. To give good boost to the sport, we have hired five rugby experts from various countries across the globe. At the initial stage, very little number of students have shown interest to practice the sport.’’
At later stages, the sport began attracting the youth. This is the second time, we are organising the rugby state-level championship competitions in Kurnool. We have planned to conduct national-level championship games in a short period, he stated.
He also said that the sport would be developed in all 13 districts across the state and the players would be given due importance. He wished good luck to all the participants of the state-level meet.
Setkur Chief Executive Officer, Sudhakar Reddy lauded the efforts of TG Bharat in organising the state-level contest for rugby. AP Rugby Association Secretary C Ramanjaneyulu said that around 200 players from 10 districts are participating in the tournament.
Rugby tournament Organising Secretary K Parusha Ramudu, District Yoga Association Secretary Avinash Shetty, Adarsha Educational Institutions President Thimmaiah and others participated in the inaugural ceremony.
