Gang robs gold ornaments from elderly woman
Vijayawada: Three persons in the guise of policemen went to a house and robbed gold articles worth Rs 5 lakh from an elderly woman on Saturday at Pedapulipaka village under Penamaluru police station limits. The incident came to light on Sunday.
M Sujatamma lodged a complaint with Penamaluru police on Sunday. According to Penamaluru police, three persons went to the residence of Sujatamma, who has been living alone in the house for the past 15 years, after the death of her husband. The gang introduced themselves as policemen and said that they came to the colony as part of their night duty. They were in civilian dress, the victim said.
They successfully made old woman to believe them and asked for a glass of water. When she was going inside the house to get water, they threw chilli powder into her eyes, closed the door and tied up her hands. Later, they opened the wardrobe and looted gold articles worth Rs.5 lakh.
Sujatamma informed the police that the accused stayed in the house for 30 minutes and later fled the scene. The incident occurred at 11 pm. She was able to untie the rope and informed the neighbours about the robbery after 30 minutes. She went to Penamaluru police station on Sunday and lodged a complaint about the looting of gold articles by a three-member gang.
Sujatamma told the police that she had suspected foul play and tried to raise an alarm but could not do due to the sprinkling of chilli powder into her eyes, she added. Penamaluru Inspector of Police K Damodhar is investigating the case.
