People urged to oppose PPP in Health Sector
Eluru: Praja Arogya Vedika State secretary S Suresh called upon the people to join hands to protect the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) to strengthen the government healthcare sector.
The Praja Arogya Vedika conducted a roundtable opposing the PPP system in the government health sector. CITU City Committee president B Somayya presided over the meeting.
Speaking as chief guest, Dr Suresh said that the PPP system in the health sector in India is not suitable and the government is making efforts to handover the VIMS under PPP system.
He stated that the government is trying to entrust some sites belonging to VIMS to real estate companies. He stated that the government should extend the medical and education to the people on their own.
He expressed concern that if those sectors go into the private sector, the people would not get education and medical facilities. He pointed out that recently urban health centres were handed over to Apollo.
Earlier, Rs. 1 lakh was sanctioned to each urban health centre and after handing over to Apollo, the budget was enhanced to Rs 4.2 lakh. He also pointed out that the outdoor services were stopped in the urban health centres.
IMA secretary Dr PARS Srinivas said that even though the PPP system was introduced in other countries, the governments control it.
