Water Man stresses need to protect Godavari River
Rajamahendravaram: Stressing that protection of River Godavari was the need of the hour, Waterman of India Dr Rajendra Singh said everyone should feel it as a social responsibility as “it is our duty to pass on the river safely int the hands of our future generations”.
He took part in National Convention on Rejuvenation of River Godavari held at Adikavi Nannaya University here on Sunday. He said River Godavari is the lifeline of the people with its own history of various traditions and cultures.
“The residents of six states are the children of the mighty river Godavari and the rights on the river are equal to all. All these states are members of family of Godavari,” he said.
He urged the governments to conduct awareness programmes to tell people about the greatness and importance of River Godavari. Expressing concern over the pollution of the river, he appealed to the people not to throw wastes, mainly plastic, into the river.
Convention chairman Addepalli Sridhar assured to organise awareness programmes on River Godavari and a writ would also be filed in High Court on the pollution of the river. Former chief engineer S Satyanarayana, Prof Vijay Paranjai and others were present.
