5,000 to attend Mayor’s Iftar

Eluru: Iftar for 5,000 fasting Muslims has been arranged at Mayor Noorjahan’s residence here on Wednesday.

Disclosing this at a programme here, the Mayor announced that the State government was giving priority to Muslims in welfare measures.  

Clothes were distributed to Imams of 25 mosques in the city.

She reminded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had paved the way for distribution of honorarium to Imams and their assistants. 

She informed that her husband and cooption member SMR Pedababu has arranged for Wednesday’s Iftar in an unprecedented manner. 

He would also distribute Rs. 250 Ramzan gift from his personal funds to about 6,000 ration card holders belonging to the poor Muslims in the city on Thursday. 

Earning money was something different from donating to the poor. It gives identity of being humane to the rich, she added.

In his message, Pedababu informed that the Mayor was known for her charity as she had been donating her salary to the Muslims during the programme scheduled on June 14. 

It was in addition to the State government’s Ramzan Tohfa which includes four essential commodities such as sugar, wheat flour and ghee.

Former deputy mayors Venkataratnam, Ramachandra Kishore, Corporation Whip Gudavalli Srinivas, corporators Iliyas Pasha, B Balaji, Radhababu and others were present.
