District Police headquarters construction remains a non-starter
Tirupati: As the Revenue department officials and Chittoor district administration fail to allot suitable land, the construction of Tirupati Urban District Police headquarters (DPO) remains as a non-starter even seven years after it was proposed. The department continues to function in the buildings belonging to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and other Government department buildings.
Presently One SP (IPS officer), 20 DSP rank officials and more than 30 Cis , more than 2,500 constables in civil and armed reserve are working in Tirupati urban district. The department has requested the government to allot the centrally-located 20-acre site at Daminedu for the DPO, as it will be easily accessible to the highways leading to Chennai, Kadapa, Nellore and Chittoor. The proposals include to have a 12-acre parade ground with a 400-metre track.
But the site was not finalised by the district revenue officials. They also did not agree for another two to three locations. Tirupati urban police office, has been functioning from the 120-year- old SV high school building of TTD which is facing leakages in every rainy season. The present monsoon season is also a tough time to police personnel for their working.
Under the circumstances, the urban police officials are chalking out to construct DPO office at armed reserve police grounds which is under police department control. According to police sources the officials have prepared a blue print to build the district police office at the site which also has a forensic lab.
SP Abhishek Mohanty told to The Hans India, “ We have been examining the proposal of DPO construction at MR Palle AR Parade Grounds. So far it was not finalised, just it was under the department consideration only, we would send proposal to State Government for DPO office
construction at the site”.
