Eluru: Overwhelmed by bumper harvest in Rabi season, the official machinery has geared up for Khariff crops in the district. Godavari water was released for eastern delta canal on June 1 as officials prepared an action plan for Khariff.

Advance preparation for Kharif is not new for the district. Farmers used to depend on small water tanks in their fields.

They were in the practice of preparing land for sowing since May third week and go ahead with planting of seedbeds by using the water from near-by canals.

A section of farmers have advanced the farming activity as cyclones and pest destroy the crop when they are about to go for harvest.

Moreover, they have been facing water shortage for Rabi season crops. In order to overcome all possible difficulties, the officials have also been encouraging farmers to go for advance farming activity.

The officials have also been suggesting the farming community to gain from third crop by following their action plan. As a result of action plan, the farmers have been getting additional income, fodder for cattle and increasing fertility of the soil.

The arrival of monsoon has motivated others also to start farming activity.

During the past three seasons, the farmers benefitted a lot by avoiding traditional system of farming and by encouraging machines for harvest.

The officials on their part, have been distributing soil cards and clarifying their doubts online by suggesting right kind of fertilisers.
