Own house dream fulfilled for many under NTR Urban Housing Scheme

Eluru: People below poverty line and economically backward who dreamed of own house have been eager to get a house under NTR Urban Housing Scheme.

Introduced in 2016-17, the scheme was implemented as pilot project in Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Palakol and Bhimavaram. 

With the positive results, the administration has been trying to execute the scheme in all municipalities. For families living in rented houses, the scheme proved beneficial.

All those who have white ration card are eligible to avail benefits under the scheme. 

The beneficiaries who never applied for any other housing scheme are eligible for the scheme. 

About 5,000 houses were sanctioned for the year 2017-18. A majority of beneficiaries started construction works under the housing scheme. A subsidy of Rs 2.5 lakh will be given to the beneficiaries. 

State and central governments will bear the subsidy in 50:50 ratio. If the beneficiary urges for loan, banks would provide up to Rs 1 lakh.

The scheme is under implementation in Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Bhimavaram, Jangareddigudem, Kovvur, Nidadavole, Tanuku, Palakol and Narsapur towns. 

The housing corporation has been extending funds in a phased manner. AP TIDCO (Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation) Urban Housing under the guidance of Housing Board is providing flats to the eligible poor. 

The TIDCO has been acquiring land and building the flats. In delta region alone works worth Rs 1,500 crore have been progressing at different phases. 
 
The works relating to multistoried flats began in July and are expected to complete by October. 

In Tadepalligudem, Palakole and Bhimavaram, about 22,000 houses were sanctioned. Out of them, construction of about 20,000 flats was already completed.
