Ongole: The Hans India, HMTV and Kapil Group organised a blood donation camp at the Indian Red Cross Building, behind the Collectorate here on Sunday.

The camp was inaugurated by the chairman for the Prakasam district unit of Indian Red Cross Society Dr Gundavarapu Raghava Rao and STEP CEO Dr B Ravi.

The vice-chairman of Zilla Parishad, Prakasam district Dr Nukasani Balaji graced the occasion. A number of youth including the staff from Kapil Group voluntarily donated blood for the use by needy patients.

Dr Raghava Rao said that the there was a huge need of blood in the district. He said that one unit of blood can be used as plasma, whole blood and platelets depending on the need of three persons.

He said that blood is being asked in emergencies like accidents and caesarian surgeries. He told that it takes about 6 hours to process and prepare blood for transfusion after the donation. So he suggested the youth to donate blood regularly at Indian Red Cross and utilise the credits in their emergency.

Dr Ravi congratulated ‘The Hans India’ for organising more number of blood donation camps in Telangana and receiving award from the Governor. He wished that the camps conducted in Andhra Pradesh also would fetch award from the Governor.

He said that similar programmes would help the Indian Red Cross to have a database of donors with rare and negative groups of blood and contact them in emergency.

Dr Balaji said that ‘The Hans India’, HMTV and the Kapil Group were taking up the most required social service activity.

He said that donating blood was nothing but saving a life and helping a family for lifetime.

He wished youth would make a habit of donating blood after every three months and encourage their friends to do the same and build a chain of humanity.
