Eluru: Even though stone laid for drainage works in mandal headquarters of Mogaltur in Septembter, no work was taken up so far.

People have been wondering why the authorities had failed to initiate work in spite of availability of funds to the tune of Rs 4 crore.

MLA B Madhava Naidu and sarpanch K Swarna Kumar Babu took the initiative to solve drainage problem. As the problem existed in every ward, they decided to take up works in all the places.

They secured release of Rs 4 crore funds from the governments under various sources.
In order to complete the works on a brisk pace, they divided the works in 20 reaches with allocation of Rs 20 lakh for each unit.

The works are supposed to take up on nomination basis.  The people expected the works would begin in summer.

Their hopes on the works remain unfulfilled. With the onset of the monsoon, it will be difficult to take up works as side drains overflow and roads become wet and waterlogged even for a small spell of rain.

As the term of the panchayat would expire by July-end, there appears no possibility of taking up the works now.

The people have been suffering from mosquito menace, which grow like anything when water stagnated in low-lying areas and side drains.

Meanwhile, the used water in houses is blocking the premises. The people have been requesting the authorities to take up and finish the works at the earliest.
