Vijayawada: CPM Politburo member B V Raghavulu said on Monday the party would oppose the proposal to conduct polls simultaneously to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies in the country. The proposal was very dangerous to the country and to the federal system, he observed and added people have the right to reject the existing government.

Addressing media conference at the MBVK Bhavan here, the senior CPM leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the subject of conducting simultaneous polls during the NITI Aayog meeting. He said the CPM would oppose any move that destroys the democracy in the country.

Raghavulu alleged the Hindutva forces are planning to conduct the polls simultaneously, which will be beneficial to the BJP. India is a very big country with diversity and having many regions and religions. People should have the right to reject any government, which are harmful to the country and the people.

Referring to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s strike, he said the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi should have solved the problems being faced by Delhi. NITI Aayog is working under the control of the Prime Minister, he said and added this should be changed.

CPM State Secretariat member Y Venkateswara Rao said the State CPM committee would meet at Siddhartha Arts College auditorium on June 20 and it would discuss important subjects related to the party and the state.
