Fast patrol vessel Coast Guard ship Rani Rashmoni commissioned

Visakhapatnam: Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Rani Rashmoni, the fifth in the series of fast patrol vessels constructed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, was commissioned at Visakhapatnam by Additional-Director General, Indian Coast Guard VSR Murthy here on Monday in the presence of Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Seaboard) KR Nautiyal and guests from central and state governments.

The 51 mtr ship named after famous legendary leader ‘Rani Rashmoni’ of Kolkata has been designed and built indigenously and is equipped with the most advanced and sophisticated navigational and communication sensors and equipment. ICGS Rani Rashmoni is propelled by three MTU 4000 series diesel engines of 2,720 KW capacity each, coupled with three Rolls Royce Kamewa jets and can achieve a maximum speed of 34 knots (63 kmph).

Speaking on the occasion, VSR Murthy stated that the latest induction of the Indian Coast Guard would not only reinforce the coastal security apparatus but also ensure added focus on surveillance at the sea, coastal patrol, anti-smuggling, anti-poaching operations, protection of fishermen apart from maritime search and rescue. He emphasised that the commissioning was yet another defining moment on the annals of Indian ship building industry and is a testimony to the indigenous shipbuilding capability which further reinforced the nation’s ‘Make in India’ campaign.

ICGS Rani Rashmoni has a complement of four officers and 34 men and is commanded by Commandant Navdeep Safaya. The ship will be based at Visakhapatnam under the administrative and operational control of the Commander, No.6 Coast Guard District Headquarters (Andhra Pradesh). Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Shipyard Limited Rear Admiral LV Sarat Babu was also present on the occasion.
