Focus on drunken drive to avoid accidents

Kakinada: The East Godavari administration has initiated additional measures to check drunken drive in the district.

As part of this, 11 breath analyzers to transport department and 32 to police department were distributed to keep constant vigil on this activity, said District Joint Collector A Mallikarjuna.

Presiding over the Road Safety Committee meet organised at district Collecetorate on Tuesday, the JC reviewed the road accident deaths and the reasons behind these incidents from January to May this year.

The JC observed that though the number of accidents had come down by 18 percent when compared to the corresponding period in 2017,  there was rise in number of deaths in the accidents.

Mallikarjuna directed transport, police, R and B and NH  authorities to find out the reasons and take necessary steps to avert the accidents with immediate effect.

Observing the rise in accidents at ROB area in Samara Kota, the JC directed the concerned authorities to improve the preventive measures in the area. 

Similarly, the JC also directed the NH 216 authorities to increase barricading in the areas where the road extension works going on in Kakinada- Amalapuram stretch of the NH.

Rajamahendravaram Sub-Collator Saikanth Varma, Municipal Commissioner Sumeet Kumar, deputy transport commissionaire Siri Anand and other officials participated.
