Court imprisons 48 for drunken driving
Ongole: The Prakasam district mobile court imposed cash fine for 51 persons and imprisoned 48 persons from the fined persons on Thursday for drunken driving and violation of Motor Vehicles Act.
The Ongole traffic police DSP, K Venugopal along with the SIs K Hanumantha Rao, V Mahesh and constables arrested 51 persons for drunken driving and violation of road safety rules, motor vehicles act and presented before the mobile court.
The judge imposed a fine of Rs 2,100 for each person and the police collected Rs 1,07,100 from them. The court also imprisoned 27 persons for 2 days, 12 persons for 3 days, 5 persons for 5 days, 2 persons for 7 days and 2 persons for 10 days each who drank above 100 percent of the permitted limit.
The Ongole traffic police offered counseling to all those who involved in the drunken driving at the traffic police station.
The officers explained them about the value of life, reasons for road accidents and the loss to the victims involved in them and their family members.
They also made the accused understand the importance of following traffic rules and the impact of violation on them and their fellow commuters.
They made the accused take pledge for not involving in drunken driving again, before leaving from the counseling session.
