Mayor Noorjahan seeks public support to make Eluru Swachh city
Eluru: Mayor Noorjahan has called upon people to cooperate to make Eluru a Swachh city.
She inaugurated five compactors sanctioned to Eluru Municipal Corporation by Swachh Andhra Pradesh Corporation.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that the EMC had already owned three big compactors which were being used in One Town area. While the Swachh Corporation sanctioned a total of six compactors, five were supplied so far.
These compactors would be used to collect garbage in Two-Town area. The corporation had been collecting garbage in a planned manner as per GO 279 for the last fortnight. The city was divided into pockets for easy lifting of garbage.
While in One-Town there are 65 pockets, Two-Town has 108 pockets. About 300 sanitary workers would collect dry and wet garbage from every house in relevant pockets, she explained.
Commissioner Mohana Rao said that new sanitation system was under implementation in the city.
There had been substantial improvement in sanitation in the city, he informed.
Stating that the government had set a target of 50,000 saplings which need to be planted during the monsoon, he expressed confidence that they would surpass the target.
