Plot to kill Vice-Chancellor: High Court denies bail to accused
Hyderabad: The High Court dismissed the bail petition moved by A Prudhvi Raj and Chandan Mishra who are facing charges of conspiracy along with Maoists to eliminate the Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Appa Rao Podile.
Justice B Shiv Shankar Rao passed orders to this effect on Tuesday. Prudviraj and Chandan Mitra were arrested by Yatapaka police in East Godavari district on March 30 on charges of possessing weapons and of having been in conspiracy with Maoists to eliminate the VC of UoH. They were produced in a local court. Their bail petitions were dismissed by the lower court and they approached the High Court.
Andhra Pradesh public prosecutor Posani Venkateswarlu submitted to the judge that this case is a serious one and bail cannot be granted as in normal cases. He pointed out that Prudhvi Raj was an accused in another case previously also. The intention of the conspiracy to eliminate the VC was to attract the students towards Maoist party, he submitted. Keeping these submissions in view, the judge dismissed the bail petition.
