Cops hold counselling for eve-teasers

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada city police took the responsibility to protect women and girl students under the Police Commissionerate limits through ‘She Teams’ and more than 3,500 eve-teasers were given counselling at different police stations and Vasavya Mahila Mandali head office here by the police officials and Vasavya Mahila Mandali members since the introduction of She Teams.

As many as 35 She Team members have been appointed from city police stations by the Commissioner of Police, D Goutam Sawang. They keep vigil at public places including bus stations, railway station, parks, cinema theatres, women colleges and malls.

In this connection, about 300 youth were given counselling who were booked under eve-teasing and rash bike riding at Vasavya Mahila Mandali office on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) G Bhupathi said that police department was committed to make Vijayawada an eve-teasing free city.

He said that students must focus on their career than teasing girls and warned that the police department would register FIR on eve-teasers who would repeat the crime.

One of the counsellors N Kishore said that the lower and middle class family background students were committing the crime of teasing women and girl students due to lack of commitment over their education, society and career.

He said that Vasavya Mahila Mandali and police department conducted counselling to the eve-teasers and snake riders who drove the vehicle like snake in front of the girl students and on main roads because snake riders were creating traffic jams and troubles to others on main roads.
