Awareness rally held against drug abuse

Tirupati: The Prohibition and Excise department of Chittoor district organised a massive rally here on Friday, as part of their week-long programme to create awareness on drug abuse and its repercussions.

In view of the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking’ to be observed on June 26, Excise officials along with Tirupati Urban Police and People’s Action for Social Services (PASS) took part in the rally that started from RTC Central Bus station and concluded at Town Club.

The participants raised slogans against drug abuse and illicit trafficking besides holding placards in their hands. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner T Nagalakshmi said that they were focussing more on students and to bring awareness among them various competitions and workshops would also be conducted.

Parents also need to be educated on the ill-effects of drug abuse, she opined. DSP M Katamaraju, East DSP M Muniramaiah, Excise Superintendent P Nagamaradaiah and others participated in the rally.
