40 taken ill due to food poisoning

Tirupati: About 60 people were taken ill due to suspected food poisoning after taking the food served in a local temple in Pureduvaripalle village in Pulicherla mandal, 50 km from here on Sunday. 

They were admitted in Piler government hospital. Madanapalli RDO G Ganesh Kumar visited the hospital and spoke to the villagers who were undergoing treatment and also hospital authorities. He urged them to provide better treatment for the speedy recovery of the victims.

According to information reaching here, all those who fell ill took the food served during the inauguration festival of Seetharamanjaneya Swamy temple in the village late last night and developed vomiting and stomach ache since early morning.

They were immediately admitted to Piler hospital 20 km away for treatment and their condition is stable, according to District Coordinator of Health Services Dr Sarala who spoke with Piler hospital medical officer Chandra Sekhar.

Ten to 15 others who also complained of nausea and uneasiness were treated locally in the village itself. Preliminary reports indicate that suspected food poisoning was the reason for the illness of the 60 people at Pureduvaripalli.

Meanwhile, AP Housing Corporation chairman Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy, TTD Trust Board member Challa Babu, former ZP chairman G V Srinatha Reddy and others visited the hospital to enquire about the condition of the 60 patients.
