Vijayawada: Former Union minister and BJP Mahila Morcha president Daggubati Purandeswari said that the State government should use photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the Chief Minister for the Centrally-sponsored programmes.

Addressing the media at the BJP Mahila Morcha office here on Tuesday, the former Union minister asserted that the BJP leaders never said that the Polavaram Project works were not going at a brisk pace. “We only said that the works should be expedited,” she added.

She slammed the TDP leaders for indulging in mudslinging against the BJP and the Central government day in and day out. Referring to a sum of Rs 1935 crore which is yet to be released by the Centre, she said the Chief Engineer had explained that the government was yet to submit the bills for the amount. The BJP leader said that the information obtained through RTI revealed that there were no dues from the Central government.

“It was Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who asked the Navayuga Constructions to undertake the works of Polavaram at the old rates,” she recalled.
In connection with the relief and rehabilitation package for the displaced persons, she said that once the State government submits the required funds for the R&R package, the Centre would readily release necessary funds.

She said that it was the BJP government which merged the seven mandals in Andhra Pradesh paving the way to go ahead with the project work. Purandeswari said that the Central government was taking full responsibility to complete Polavaram Project at the earliest.
