Ongole: The Andhra Pradesh BC Sankshema Sangham initiated one crore membership drive to prove that there is 57 percent of BC population in the state.

The Sangham Prakasam district president, Goli Tirupati Rao started the campaign in the district after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Jyothiba Phule in Ongole on Wednesday.

Tirupati Rao said that the political parties in the state were neglecting the BCs by showing their number as less, considering them as only a vote bank.

He asked the BCs in the district to come forward to take up around 10 lakhs membership in each district and show their unity and strength.

Kavartapu Srinivasa Rao of Padmasali Sangham asked the BCs to take membership without considering their political affiliations.

The treasurer of the Sangham, Pendyala Narayana said that the upper castes were abusing the 57 percent BCs in the state and enjoying the political and power benefits.

The members and leaders from various BC associations and caste associations participated in the programme and pledged to take up the membership drive to all corners of the district.
