BJP MLC alleges graft in Neeru-Chettu scheme

Kakinada: BJP MLC and party senior leader Somu Veerraju alleged large scale graft in Neeru-Chettu implementation in the state. He said that Rs 13,600 crore MGNREGS funds were utilised for the scheme and there were no proper accounts on spending. In addition to this, fertile soil dug from water bodies was sold for crores of rupees and went into pockets of TD leaders.

Speaking to the media at here on Tuesday, Veerraju demanded White Paper on the amounts released from the Central government and spent on Polavaram project by the state government. He said that as per experts’ opinion, it takes 15 years to complete the project, but Chandrababu assures to complete the project by 2019.

Referring to Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, the BJP leader said that  tenders were called for canal system with steep rise in tender amount. The BJP leader alleged that large scale graft was involved in the implementation of RR package.  

He said that out of 1.10 lakh acres in submerging areas, the package was cleared for 50,000 acres during regime of Rajasekhara Reddy.  For the remaining 60,000 acres, Rs 5,000 to 6,000 crore amount is sufficient whereas the TDP government demanded Rs 33,000 crore for payment of compensation and rehabilitation for the remaining lands.
