Install baggage scanners at all entry points: DRM

Tirupati: South Central Railway (SCR) Secunderabad DRM Amith Varadan visited Tirupati railway station on Tuesday and inspected the existing amenities and suggested to place baggage scanners at all entry points. He went through all the platforms, waiting halls and inspected the sixth platform works.

He expressed concern over the narrow staircase that leads to foot-over bridge on second and third platforms along with the narrow platforms. The DRM suggested to arrange chairs for passengers on platforms and enquired why there was no separate washroom for ladies in AC waiting hall on the first platform.

The officers accompanied him explained that there was no provision there but in general waiting hall separate washrooms are there for ladies and gents. In the station redevelopment plan which will be taken out by Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) very soon all the facilities will find place, they said.

The officials also explained about the proposed open waiting halls on platform one, four and five as suggested by Guntakal DRM Vijay Prathap Singh. Amith Varadan also visited the unified booking counter on the south side and expressed surprise as no passengers were there.

He was accompanied by In-charge Station Director T Devadasu, In-charge Station Manager OS Muthuswamy, Chief Commercial Inspector N Venkatesulu, Traffic Inspector G Rajendra Prasad and others.
