Vijayawada Metro Rail Detailed Project Report to be ready in 3 months

Amaravati: Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana said that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for metro rail for Vijayawada city would be readied within 3 months.

Narayana said the DPR would be prepared for metro corridors of 65 km. He reviewed the progress of metro rail project with Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation MD N P Ramakrishna Reddy and representatives of German government owned KFW Bank, SISTRA public transport consultants (France) at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

He said the first DPR was prepared for two corridors of 25 km in Vijayawada city and later it was extended to Gannavaram airport and Amaravati. “Now we are planning to build another corridor to Jakkampudi,” he said. Narayana said that the DPR would be prepared as per new metro policy which could be submitted within 3 months. He said the KFW would provide Rs 8 crore for metro project.

The Minister held the Central government responsible for delay of metro rail project.  He said, “The Centre brought new metro rail policy two years after we had submitted DPR on Vijayawada metro. This was the major reason for the delay inf metro project for Vijayawada.

The Centre has the responsibility to extend financial help for the Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam metro rail projects as per AP Reorganisation Act. But the Centre did nothing in the last four years in this regard,” he said.
